From March 7: Communist Culture Club

Films! Podcasts! Books old and new! We want to bring socialists internationally together to talk about anything and everything to do with ‘culture’ in the broadest sense of the word. Every two weeks, hosted jointly by LLA and Why Marx? Register here: https://rb.gy/1c0lx

Please note that our draft timetable is subject to change. We are still playing around with the format and will adjust it if things don’t work out well. We also want to allow for plenty of involvement from the audience:

Thursday March 7, 7pm

Thursday March 21, 7pm

  • Should we reject Orwell because the right loves him? – with US Marxist Dan Lazare
  • A short introduction to Palestinian poet and writer Mourid Barghouti – with Anne McShane, Marxist living in Ireland
  •  The third Intifida will be cultural! with Tam Dean Burn

Thursday April 4, 7pm

  •  Is ‘In Time’ the most Marxist film ever?– with author Simon Hannah (the film is available on Netflix)
  • What the left should learn from Trotsky on fascism – with Matthew Jones

Thursday April 18, 7pm

  • Why communists stand in elections – with Chris Strafford and Cat Rylance
  • Why are we still banging on about the Communist Manifesto? with Steve Freeman

In future sessions, we will discuss, among other things:

  • Why socialists shouldn’t be reverse snobs about opera;
  • Star Trek and communism;
  • The (bad) culture of the left
  • The best anti-war films
  • And various other issues
