New LLA education series

A message from our education working group, August 28 2020: We are currently working on a series on “Great Revolutions” and a series on “Basic Marxist concepts”, as well as a number of debates and sessions on other interesting topics. REGISTER HERE for the whole series.

We are restarting our education program on September 10 with what sounds like a fascinating session on football and Marxism, presented by economist and author Peter Kennedy.

‘The English Premiership (EPL) through the lens of Marx’s Critique of Capitalist Political Economy’

Elite football is a topsy-turvy world even for capitalism, in which club owners shirk the moniker of ‘owner’ for that of ‘custodian’; where fans are simultaneously consumers of what they help produce; and where the principal source of labour power – elite players – share in most of the enormous spoils of surplus money flowing tsunami-like in, through and out of this industry. This event invites discussion of the reasons for this topsy-turvy world through a prior examination of the zone of accumulation peculiar to elite football and splendidly epitomised by the EPL.

Starting Thursday April 23 2020: A series of webinars looking at the history of the Labour party and considering a number of key historical issues which remain relevant today: the relationship between Labour and the organised working-class movement, how serious a challenge did the party present to capitalism and imperialism, and the nature of the Labour left and its understanding of socialism. More details, reading material and videos of past sessions here.

Reading Capital with David Harvey – a fantastic introduction to the timeless work by Karl Marx . Large number of videos are available here.
