After Corbyn – where now for the left? With Jo Bird, Ian Hodson, Moshe Machover

April 5, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

In this online meeting, we want to collectively discuss the outcome of the Labour leadership elections (which will be announced on April 4) and how the Labour movement might be affected.

Whatever the outcome, the LLA believes that we should not simply give up the party – or our membership cards. Under Corbyn, the party has grown to more than 500,000 members, with many of those being self-declared socialists. The composition of annual conference has changed dramatically compared to five years ago. The left has gained influence in numerous local areas – and now controls many CLPs. Together with the continued affiliation of the trade unions, Labour is now truly a mass organisation of the working class – and the biggest democratic socialist party in Europe. This is worth fighting to keep and strengthen.

But crucially, we also want to discuss and assess what went wrong in the last 5 years. Why haven’t we achieved more? Why hasn’t the party been radically transformed under Corbyn’s leadership? What lessons do we need to learn?

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Jo Bird (NEC candidate)
  • Ian Hodson (president BFAWU)
  • Moshé Machover (expert on Israel and the Middle East)
  • Lee Rock (Labour Left Alliance)
